North East Bertram Rendezvous
North East Bertram Rendezvous
FYI: The 31 guys are starting to plan their annual North East rendezvous. This year they are planning on having it at Oaks Bluff (Martha's Vineyard). The dates are Friday Aug 4th and Sat Aug 5th. The Oak's Bluff Harbor Master doesn't start taking reservations until Feb 1, so there is still some time. Here is the intial post from the 31 site: Well Guys here’s the scoop on doing a Vineyard Northeast Rendezvous. In order for this to happen we need to gather enough true interest very soon. Back in September I collected 10 names. However, since my computer hard drive died I don’t have that list anymore. So all those interested should chime in again and we need to repeat these messages periodically so the occasional visitors here get the word. Once we have a group of confirmed people, they MUST sign up for slips in the first week of February (when OB starts taking slip reservations), in order to get slips in Oak Bluffs. Site: http://www.oakbluffsharbor.com/index.shtml These slips go very quickly. However, they have not updated the web site, but it does start at midnight February 1 2006. They told me that the first weekend in August does not sell out for a month or so, but don’t wait too long. These reservations will be for Friday August 4th and Saturday August 5th. If someone out there wishes to post information on a web site, that would be great. Maybe, if Patrick has the time, we could get links to these rendezvous sites. This would help get the word out to those who do not log on daily to this site. Once we have a group of people with confirmed reservations I will arrange a catered dinner at the East Chop Beach Club or Yacht Club based on the number of people that will attend. I have talked to the OB Harbor Master (Todd Alexander) and he assures me that we will all be placed next to each other and that late comers who want or are stuck with moorings will be placed very close. (e.g. close enough to throw beers to each other) Just an FYI, there is no rafting in slips! They are all stern to with pilings between each slip. However, the moorings do raft up to 4 per mooring For all those who express interest in attending, but without boats or do not wish to sleep on RLDT’s (that's rolling little death traps for the uninformed), I can post lists of “acceptableâ€ lodging. These places can also be found on the Oak Bluffs Web Site. Oh and Timmy, your welcome to sleep on my RLDT and we’ll talk to the wife and see if your allowed at MY house. As far as finding “sponsorsâ€ for gifts and all that stuff, someone elese can do that if they want, but I personally just want to have a few drinks and dinner with good people and nice boats, not that interested in winning anything and the dinner wont be that expensive anyways. We’ll discuss menu and stuff once we get a confirmed head count. That’s it for now, lets see what happens. The more boats the better, but a few good people, is fine with me. Scott Traenkle “High Hopesâ€ I know I won't go down for just the weekend, but Bill and I were talking about heading down to the Vineyard this summer for a week or so. We may incorporate the rendezvous into our schedule. Anyone else interested? Regards, Doug L. 1986 33 Bertram FBC Queen Elizabeth Marblehead, MA

I'd attend in MV. Why don't we use this thread to see who of the 33's are interested and want to attend? Anyone else willing to commit? Doug, once we get a head count, you could let the 31 site know how many of us would be interested in tagging on to their rendezvous? Scott's a really good friend of mine, dating back 17 years from college days. We've stayed at his house before in Oak Bluffs. If any of you have never been all I can say is that place is very cool, we have always had a blast there - you should go if you can. I'll be there, but not with my boat of course. Yes, I haven't forgotten about wind. The best part about early august is that the winds are usually light that time of year. I'm thinking about leaving the boat in Mattapoisett for a week or two and around that time would be perfect for that, so I could pop in for the OB shin-dig pretty easy from there. Frank Price

We're planning on gong on a tuna hunt the Friday before the rendezvous, anybody want to join in? I think Scott's boat (B31) is full already but it would be nice to have the B33 group represented that day. Sean Burlingham "Island Time" 1987 Bertram 33 SF Melbourne, FL SBurlingham@cfl.rr.com

Cool Frank. Will advise if anything changes and when it draws near. The Friday we're planning on is 8/4/2006. I guess there is a good tuna spot that is only about 20 miles away from Oak Bluffs Harbor that they're aiming for. Hi: This is Scott Traenkle from the 31 site. Since I have a slip in Oak Bluffs and pretty grew up there I sort of volunteered to help out and shake up some interest in this get together. ALL BERTRAMS have always been welcomed and encouraged to attend these things. It definitely is not for just 31's. So guy you should sign up. I know a few guys from this site are often over on the 31 site so they can keep you up to date, but the bottom line is sign up at the Oak Bluffs Marina web site the first week of February. They don't have very many slips and it would be great to see the whole place filled with just Bertrams, just think of it.
